Especially .............

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

that I'm a little bit ashamed of my critical words (to anyone willing to listen) following a dreadful AA birthday meeting where a number of people with 15+ years of sobriety were incredibly self-serving. That does not give me the right to froth at the mouth and spew venom towards them, especially behind their backs. I have a lot of work to do in this area.

for my sponsor, especially when he's not around (but he's always looking over my shoulder)

especially, for my 6:30am colleagues as we become a team in building a Mardi Gras float for a fundraiser

that we had a successful initial committee meeting of the 2011 Houston Roundup. Many more meetings to come throughout this year. The event doesn't happen until late November.

the only requirement ...

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

that I still have a desire to drink alcohol no more

for Tradition 3 - the only requirement ...

for all the blogger friends who are still posting and especially to those who are no longer posting, but have been a part of my recovery

for GodShots ......... I had a set of wheel rims for sale on Craigslist since January. I've had many phone calls and "promises" from people that they would buy them, but no luck. Wednesday, a guy called and said he wanted them. He came by last night and bought them. So I went to my account at Craigslist to remove the classified advert. It had just expired and had been removed automatically during the afternoon. Voila!

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

that sobriety and recovery are so popular amongst the crowd of people with whom I choose to associate

for all the jobs I had in my younger days, which provided me with a solid foundation to live a full life and experience things I never expected to experience

yesterday, our 6:30am group read Gutter Bravado from the 4th edition of Alcoholics Anonymous. I love these quotes ... "planned abstinence was extrememly stressful." ..... Insanity

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

that I think I had some good words of encouragement to a new sponsee who relapsed on crack. He called and was crying terribly because he just "graduated" from a treatment center that charged him $90,000. He wanted to return and try it again. Insanity?

Riddles

1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three
rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full
of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions
that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?

2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over
5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go
out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner. How can this be?

3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when
you throw it away?

4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the
words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?

5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how
quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so
ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In
fact, nothing is wrong with it. It is highly unusual though. Study
it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But
if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without
any coaching!

SEE BELOW

THE ANSWERS TO ALL FIVE OF THE RIDDLES ARE BELOW:

1. The third room.. Lions that haven't eaten in three years are
dead.

That one was easy, right?

2. The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of her husband,
developed it, and hung it up to dry (shot; held under water; and hung).

3. Charcoal, as it is used in barbecuing.

4. Sure you can name three consecutive days, yesterday, today,
and tomorrow!

5. The letter e, which is the most common letter used in the
English language, does not appear even once in the paragraph.

How did you do?

Happy birthday MOM!

1924

1966

2005

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

that my Mom would have been 88 years old today. She was born in 1923 and died in August 2008. She was a major guiding influence in my life, her and my father having adopted me at birth. As a 50+ year old man in recovery, my finest moments were the 3 years after her major stroke, until she died. My living amends to her were to be present in her life, much more so than I had been while drinking. I became her primary caretaker and handled most details with my sister's assistance and approval. I visited her in hospital and in her nursing home numerous times each month, often just sitting by her bedside without her conscious knowledge of my presence. I think of her almost daily and miss her. But as a realist, I know she lived a full life and it was her time to go. She had a wonderful life.

Step 6

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

for this paragraph from Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions .......

Self-righteous anger also can be very enjoyable. In a perverse way we can actually take satisfaction from the fact that many people annoy us, for it brings a comfortable feeling of superiority. Gossip barbed with our anger, a polite form of murder by character assassination, has its satisfactions for us, too. Here we are not trying to help those we criticize; we are trying to proclaim our own righteousness.

When things work

If you thought that the people who set up a room full of dominoes to have them knocked over later was amazing, you haven't seen anything yet. There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in these images. Everything that you see happened in real time exactly as you see it.

The recording required 606 takes and in the first 605 takes there always was something, that didn't work (usually of minor importance). The recording cost 6 million dollars and it took 3 months to finish, including the engineering design of the sequence.

The duration of the video is only 2 minutes, but every time that Honda shows the commercial on British television, they make enough money to support any of us for the rest of our lives. However, this commercial has turned out to be the most displayed in the history of the Internet.

Taking care of me

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

for acceptance of things just the way they are; to feel any other way is to cause myself problems

that I got to share my experience, strength and hope Saturday night for 55 minutes. Some of you call this qualifying; down here we call it a speaker meeting. I was so focused that the first time I looked at the clock I saw that I was already 3 minutes past time to stop. LOL The last time I did this I ended up 20 minutes short. Why the difference? I know this: I am in such a good place emotionally and spiritually that I can just go on and on. I want to give away what I've learned about myself and about recovery.
Where did this come from?

for so many people who support me. I have a difficult time accepting this.
Is this a low self-esteem issue?
