in touch

todAAy i AAM grAAteful & thAAnkful

we read The Doctor's Opinion (Alcoholics Anonymous) yesterday at my morning meeting. A few reminders ...

... "as part of his rehabilitation he commenced to present his conceptions to other alcoholics, impressing upon them that they must do likewise with still others." page xxv

... "the body of the alcoholic is quite as abnormal as his mind." page xxvi

... "that the phenomenon of craving is limited to this class (chronic alcoholic) and never occurs in the average temperate drinker." page xxviii

... "There are, of course, the psychopaths who are emotionally unstable. They are over-remorseful and make many resolutions, but never a decision." page xxx

I firmly believe in the power of the writings in this book. These words have helped to save the lives of countless humans and will continue to do so. For this reason, I think it's imperative for this alcoholic to attend meetings where these writings are discussed.

I love it when you quote those dirty little secrets out of that book. (...much heavy breathing here...)

Blessings and aloha...

It often smacks me in the face when I read the Big Book. I realize that no matter what I would have wished for or how hard, the alcoholics in my life will always be alcoholics. Somedays that just plain hurts.

Reading your excerpts this morning felt very much like reading them for the first time. I hope never to "get used to" the hearing what was so divinely inspired and consistently pertinent to so many people so many years after it was written.

Thank you for the nudge today.

Thank you for sharing all those quotes. GreAAT reminders.

SN: I wonder if you would be interested in doing a guest blog for our recovery website. We want to do a series showcasing bloggers for Alcohol Awareness Month. I'll email you with the deets but I just wanted to say I personally hope you are interested.

Thanks for the mention...the secret new followers has been answered....thank you to all who began today, truly grateful.

Something I heard in the Step meeting last night, "the only discussion meetings I attend are Step, or Big Book discussions".

The guy had a good point, no matter what is talked about during the discussion time of the meeting, you are guaranteed to hear the truth straight out of the books in the beginning...

Thanks for sharing Dave!
