that I am able to help others get to meetings

that I don't feel the need to "loan" money in order to keep friends

that I sleep well almost every night; truth be told, I fall asleep while I am praying. What a great way to end the day!!

that I don't have a desire to control the lives of my friends -- in the last week, 2 people who are very important to me have made subtle attempts to control different aspects of my life, for no apparent reason other than to be controlling; both of them seemed hurt when I rejected their controlling behavior -- it's a good lesson for me that I should always try to avoid that behavior

to see a friend who is visiting Houston this week. He got sober 3 weeks before me, when he was 19 years old, back in '03. The weird part is that he is 30 years younger and is now legal to drink in bars. But he's still sober and really changing. Great stuff to witness.

for a reminder that if I want others to be open-minded towards me and my lifestyle, I must treat them with the same respect

Forget about loaning money.

But how about gifting money?? Say a large amount to a blogger friend in... say... Hell's Kitchen New York?

I'd gratefully accept!

Good. Doomats are NOT spiritual.
You know daave. You will be FINE. I know you have your 'stuff' and all. And I'm not saying it's easy for you. But you will be fine. Not meaning drinking or not drinking. Fine in a much more general sense. I think you're doing a great job. For what it's worth. (even though I do NOT endorse 'external validation' as such..)

awesome pic! You are quite the adventurer!!! I can't wait to see more! Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the comment yesterday! : ) Seems like I'm a little hotbed of controversy the last couple of days.

What do you think? If people make AA so important in their lives that they rant/rave/blog about how horrible (cult-like) it is, isn't that just free AA advertisment. I've always heard the #1 rule in advertising is: it doesn't matter if you're talking good about me or bad about me, as long as you're talking about me. : )

And I say it again, you're the better man.

I really like what you wrote about how your friends were hurt by you not accepting their controlling behavior and that it was a lesson to you to avoid that kind of behavior yourself because it was hurtful to you. I hope I remember that next time I try to force things my way. Great insight.

Grabbed a couple of seconds to return a post - which makes it about 75-1 but it's progress, not perfection.

Just wanted to say your words are appreciated on my site and all full of wisdom.

Thanks for careing dude.
