Read at your own risk ...

Why do some people have the power to push certain buttons?
Friend "A" can do something and it doesn't seem to bother me or phase me one bit.
But if Friend "B" does the same thing, it drives me nuts.
I know this is very ambiguous, but it was just something flying across my remaining brain waves. And I thought it might stimulate you. For God's sake, man, get stimulated!!

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

for an AA meeting about the attitude of understanding -- it was like graduate-level recovery for this simpleton, but it was quite interesting

that global warming apparently came to an end for a few days; maybe George Bush has been working with Al Gore (ie: Houston had the coldest April weather in 68 years)

that I went to an Astros game on the spur of the moment with no prior planning - by myself and had a great time

that I watched Lewis Black on The Comedy Channel for over an hour -- he is too funny! He did a bit on bottled water and the Nutrition Facts that are printed on those bottles. It's all zeroes. Check it out!! It's all zeroes!! At least my bottle of water has 0 grams of total fat. Whew! I can guzzle in peace now.

Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.

Maybe friend A is unaware of your button, maybe friend B installed it.

During that meeting on understanding I noticed the facts on my water bottle. You are correct, it is all zeros.

During global warming events, the weather gets warmer, but the winter also will get colder. Our recent weather would be consistent with the warming trend. But beware of the frozen methane in the world's oceans, when it gets warm enough to melt that you can be sure you should have already made your peace with your Higher Power.

well firstly I do not want all my friends to behave the same way with me. for instance I have varying degrees of preferred proximity and 'intimacy' with different people depending on how i feel about them, so i do not want a 'universal standard of behaviour' from them. also i know some bahaviours require a certain level of ? maturity or integrity to carry it off, so people 'wear' behaviours with varying ability. also i know that the more 'pure' the motive, the greater the latitude of behaviour open to that person. meaning a very senior teacher can (if they choose to) adopt unconventional teaching methods. I just think that everyone is different. but the bottom line is that if something does bother me, I try to have the guts to tell them and politley ask could they do something else. I find there are ? almost no 'rules' that have universal applicabilty. which annoys me as i would like to have to take a day off and just coast on aquired knowledge instead of having to look at each thing on a case by case basis.
dont know if that is of any use, but i liked the thought provoking topic!
have a nice easter dave!

Maybe there is resentment with friend B. Sometimes though it can be that those who don't bother us are the ones that we don't really care much about. They can do whatever they want. But with those who we love and we know love us, we can be irritable and unreasonable.

Thanks for your comment on humility dAAve. I have AA's Twelve and Twelve and actually have humility underlined on pg. 58. I'm going to revisit the topic again at some point. It seems that one has to admit deficiencies in order to know humility.

I see way too much of my drining self when I watch Lewis Black. So much so it ditracts me from his humor.

My water bottle has no nutritional info. Maybe I oughta sue.

good question on the pushing buttons. for me, it's a trust issue. whether or not that person would purposely try to hurt me. on purpose :)

i had to cover up my gardens b/c we had that cold snap here too (29 degrees at night).

i wonder if we were watching lewis black at the same time, b/c i saw that this weekend too. my fav expression of his "stone cold fucknut".

In Al-Anon we sometimes say:

"My Mother presses all my buttons. She installed them, so she knows where they all are..."

You know, that's a really good question. Maybe it's all about intentions or entitlement on the part of person A & B.

I try not to let people too close to my buttons. That's probably not so good either.

Daave, so sorry to have pushed your buttons. Now all shiny and good as new. HA. I just KNOW that comment was all about ME. Some are sicker that others. Hey, AAWOKEN ..Sue 'em, its a federal law that nutrional info be on all food and drinks.
THANKS DAAVE.

dAAve,

When you figure out why some people can push certain buttons, while others can't, let me know. I have never been able to figure that out.....
