todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful
that I had a chance to sit and think about my life. The last 18 years have seen so much change. I moved back to the United States. I spent 9 intense years sitting on an Irish pub bar stool. I travelled a lot to many countries and met the love of my life in one of them. I hit my alcoholic bottom a year after meeting him. Incomprehensible demoralization. That describes the way my alcoholic bottom felt. INCOMPREHENSIBLE DEMORALIZATION! I lost my soul. I felt nothing inside except the absolute need to stay drunk.
I got sober and into recovery. The past 9 years have been awesome. (this is the way this word is supposed to be used) My social circle consists almost entirely of recovering alkies. I understand the way A.A. works and do my best to pass it along. I no longer feel the need to get drunk. And I have a defense against taking that first drink.
And life is pretty darn good.
Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
