Step 4

The path of Tropical Storm Isaac a few days ago.

for a meeting discussion about the fourth step.  So important in recovery.  I am of the opinion that a thorough fourth step should only be necessary once.  After that, it seems like step ten should be sufficient to handle life as it occurs.  If some things were left off, fine, go back and do another fourth step, but that just means the first one wasn't complete, for whatever reason.  I know there's a lot of different feelings on this.  Care to comment?

that I'm sober today and doing pretty well.  Thank you.

I too think that Step Ten is a good one to use after a thorough Step Four. Step Four took me about six months because it was so intensive. I don't think that I will need to go back to that again and again. When I new resentment pops up, I recognize that and deal with it.

I did one a year for 10 years. I needed to. It took 10 years to get to the heart of one of my hardest relationships that cast a dark cloud on my life. I didn't have the ability earlier - but I did try.

Since then though, step ten has been sufficient.

And I have dear friends, who are sober decades, who worked a step a year. I cannot imagine, but it worked for them.

I agree. There's no need for mutiple inventories. I followed the directions in our book. I learned how to process resentments, I learned how to get rid of fear and I learned how to conduct myself in relationships. When any of my character defects pop up that is what a 10th is for.

I am eyebrow deep in my 4th Step (gotta meeting with my sponsor about it in a couple of days). It is a comfort to know that there isn't one perfect way to do it. And it can be an all inclusive one time thing or a rinse and repeat step. I don't know which it will be for me. The key is to do it to the best of my ability and let it go from there.
