that yesterday we read THE DOCTOR'S OPINION in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Great stuff! Great reminders!
that in another meeting yesterday, the topic was loss -- whether it may be the loss of a loved one, a job, a relationship or a pet. There is a lot of experience in the rooms of AA of people who have gone through this before as a sober person. Including yours truly.
I had a realization during that meeting that my spiritual life really evolved at a different level during my Mom's 3-year illness, culminating in her August 2008 death. What I also know is that her illness was not about me! But it was my responsibility to be there for her.
When you put your hand to the plow, you can't put it down until you get to the end of the row.

I've been to a couple of meetings where the topic was loss. There's a good book that is CA for Al-Anon: Opening our Hearts, Transforming our Losses.
I like the plow quote. Thanks for your comments about retirement. I think that it will open up a new chapter for me.

I am so glad you were there for your mom. You will carry that with you for the rest of your life.

Isn't it weird & wonderful how those topics will pop up just when they are most needed?
Yes..."hand to the plow". All we had to do was pray the tractor would not run out of gas before the end of the row.
Guess the "tractor" thing is like "not dying before we reach the door of AA"??
sigh--so many die after they have walked back out....
I think it is wonderful that you were there for your Mom. You're a good guy!
