All Hallowed Gratitude

Motor vehicle wrecks are the leading cause of death in the United States for persons under age 34, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Reports.

Of those deaths, more than 40 percent are alcohol-related.
Alcohol-related accidents are so prevalent, it is estimated that 40 percent of all persons in the United States will be involved in a traffic mishap blamed on alcohol at some point in their lives. Forty percent!

todAAy i AAm grAAteful & thAAnkful

tha my Mom has hung in there for a year after her major stroke -- today begins year 2

for a really good 9th step meeting yesterday and all the reminders of how my life changed soooooo much once I had completed my amends

for my daily chat with Hayden; he knows how my mind works. And doesn't work.

that my photographic memory never developed

that I have actually gotten caught up on just about everything going on in my life -- there is still daily material and items to handle, but it's manageable

for the Step 1 discussion at SOBRIETY SOCIETY

that I didn't dye the first time I had a gray hair

that we can welcome Ben to the cyberworldrecoveryblogosphere -- he calls it Dragon Speak -- another Houston blogger!!

that my 2006 calendar's days are numbered

Today, instead of seeking relief from fear by trying to do battle with it, I will turn to my Higher Power.
COURAGE to CHANGE, page 305

Drinking and driving wreaked havoc in my life early on in my teen years: a boyfriend and a brother whose lives were changed forever by drunk drivers in separate accidents. It was the one thing that I swore I would never do. I didn't do it often but I did not keep that vow as we drunks inevitably get behind the wheel at some point. I am lucky I never killed anyone or got an OUI.

The only fear I try to hold on to is the fear of that first drink or drug. All the rest are just my f'd up head most of the time! As for the pic you posted...I'm blaming the tree.
