Participation in Recovery

I go to a lot of meetings at a gay AA recovery center. I'm very active there and go early to meetings and often stay for awhile after they are over. Fellowship. Almost every month, I am asked to chair one or two of the meetings for that particular month. I enjoy doing this.

I chair the noon meetings in April for Thursday. Yesterday I experienced a senior moment and totally forgot that I was chairing. I was reminded just a few minutes before it was to begin. I had no topic prepared. Just had to wing it. I told the group that I had forgotten about chairing the meeting. And then,

"I spent 32+ years drinking and have spent nearly 2 years in recovery. At the age of 51, I have spent most of my life preparing for this meeting. Instead of sitting at home watching a noon sopa opera, I am here participating in my recovery. And I am honored to be sitting in the front of this room. I believe in Unity, Recovery and Service as the way to learn to live sober. I work at those principles each day and try to progress just a little each day.
My question to you, this afternoon, is what are YOU doing today to improve the quality of your recovery that you were not doing yesterday, or last year, or ten years ago?"

I think it went well.

Today I have added another 24 hours to my sober history and for that I am grateful.

Extemporaneous qualifications are always the best! Eh?
