Goals

If you ask most people what is their one major objective in life, they would probably give you a vague answer, such as, "I want to be successful, be happy, make a good living," and that is it. They are all wishes and none of them are clear goals.

Goals must be SMART:

1. S--specific. For example, "I want to lose weight." This is wishful thinking. It becomes a goal when I pin myself down to "I will lose 10 pounds in 90 days."

2. M--must be measurable. If we cannot measure it, we cannot accomplish it. Measurement is a way of monitoring our progress.

3. A--must be achievable. Achievable means that it should be out of reach enough to be challenging but it should not be out of sight, otherwise it becomes disheartening.

4. R--realistic. A person who wants to lose 50 pounds in~30 days is being unrealistic.

5. T--time-bound. There should be a starting date and a finishing date.

Please comment your opinion on this and add something yourself.

Yes used to all these in work but I still think sometimes the dreamer goal is the best one...

So here is a thing - when they started Facebook it was just to connect up kids on the Harvard college campus. Then other USA universities... then into Europe... etc.

Now if that night in the dorm someone had said "Mark - we need within 10 years to have 500 million people all ages, across the globe" what would have happened?

So my issue with the SMART thing is it can limit you. Lose 10lbs in a month - what happens if I lost 12? Many people would roll that 2lbs into next month and need only 8 to hit the next months target?

Not against it all - just saying I think boundaries create limitations. In context of my drinking / sobriety for example I cannot promise you I won't drink in the future. I can tell you I have an intention not to drink today that is only the best I can ever do.

My goal is to get out of this class and not go to another torture session for a long time.
