Hurricane Preparations

If you're new to the Gulf Coast or have never experienced a hurricane before, please read on. If those don't apply, you may want to delay your move to Houston until later this month.

Hurricane Emily is still 4 days away from a North American landfall, but the Texas coast will be affected in one way or another. And if this one doesn't affect us, hurricane season goes on until October.
DON'T WAIT TIL THE LAST MINUTE TO MAKE PREPARATIONS!!!
Here is a website to help you prepare.

Here is the standard home disaster kit:

Water - at least 1 gallon daily per person for 3 to 7 days
Food - at least enough for 3 to 7 days— non-perishable packaged or canned food / juices— foods for infants or the elderly— snack foods— non-electric can opener— cooking tools / fuel— paper plates / plastic utensils
Blankets / Pillows, etc.
Clothing - seasonal / rain gear/ sturdy shoes
First Aid Kit / Medicines / Prescription Drugs
Special Items - for babies and the elderly
Toiletries / Hygiene items / Moisture wipes
Flashlight / Batteries
Radio - Battery operated and NOAA weather radio
Cash - Banks and ATMs may not be open or available for extended periods.
Keys
Toys, Books and Games

Important documents - in a waterproof container— insurance, medical records, bank account numbers, Social Security card, etc.
Tools - keep a set with you during the storm
Vehicle fuel tanks filled
Pet care items— proper identification / immunization records / medications— ample supply of food and water— a carrier or cage— muzzle and leash

In addition, I suggest purchasing a supply of tarpelins. They have many uses. Also, candles. They don't have these listed, but if you lose power, you're gonna need them.

I do not have enough supplies. Guess I'll hit the Fiesta and stock up. As much as I love dramatic weather, days without electricity is not a pleasant thought. Been there, done that.

And btw, it's tarpaulins.

And now, there's more storms on the way from the west.

I get so confuesed.

I think now that tarpelins is a sheet made from a deep-sea fish of some sort.

The value of the nonelectric can opener cannot be underestimated. And you're right about the candles. They probably didn't put them on the list because they don't want to be blamed for the inevitable fires.

Also, if you are running a generator, for chrissakes, do not place it in an enclosed area. You will die.

Good luck, Dave. Maybe she will break up over Mexico.

What a thoughtful post...

Although, it might qualify as a slip in CoDA!

Cheers,
